Market Overview

Duration: Long-term outlook to 2050

Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) is a thermoplastic resin produced from 1,4-butanediol, dimethyl terephthalate, purified terephthalic acid, and catalysts. It is also a type of polyester. PBT is used in a wide variety of applications such as electrical insulating and electrical connections, household goods, fibers for toothbrushes and false eyelashes, computer applications, and as an alternative to ABS where ultraviolet degradation and discoloration resistance are needed. PBT made into yarn has use in applications such as swimwear due to its chlorine resistance.
