Toluene

Toluene, a seven carbon aromatic compound, consisting of a six carbon ring with a methyl group attached to one of the ring carbons. Toluene is produced mostly from either a refinery reformer unit or as a component of pygas from an ethylene steam cracking unit. Toluene is used as a high octane gaoline blendstock, but is also utilized to produce various other chemicals including benzene, xylenes, TDI, and benzoic acid.
