Phenol

The global phenolics market continues to be primarily driven by consumption into the bisphenol a (BPA) chain, with almost half of the global phenol production being consumed by this end-use. BPA demand growth will be increasingly driven by demand for polycarbonate (PC) products, the historical growth of which has been consistently above GDP growth levels, and this is expected to continue in the future. Demand from the epoxy resins sector is lower, consuming approximately one-third of the BPA produced. The second-largest end use for phenol is phenol-formaldehyde resins (PFR), the demand for which relies heavily on the construction industry.
