Cellulose Acetate

Cellulose acetate is a renewable and biodegradable substance made from processed wood pulp that provides a cost-competitive source of quality fiber. Cellulose acetate is made using acetic anhydride and acetic acid to acetylate wood pulp usually in a batch process to form acetate flake from which the majority of products are made. The key properties that make cellulose acetate desirable are its toughness, deep gloss transparent look, along with its “natural” feel, leading to its use in garments and apparel linings. Another major product made from cellulose acetate is filter media for cigarettes, also known as “tow.”
