Terephthalic Acid (PTA)

Terephthalic Acid (PTA)

PX is oxidized in the presence of a solvent such as acetic acid to manufacture purified terephthalic acid (PTA), which is then reacted further with monoethylene glycol to make polyester melt resin. Polyester resin of different intrinsic viscosity and molecular weight is tailored to suit different end-use applications such as polyester bottle resin, thermoform sheet food packaging, polyester film, and polyester fibers, including bulk continuous, textile, and industrial filament or staple. Polyester products are used in a wide variety of popular consumer applications such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles, food packaging, clothing, carpeting, and home furnishings.
