Nitrobenzene is predominantly produced as a precursor to produce aniline, which in turn is a precursor to producing MDI for polyurethanes, rubber chemicals, dyes, explosives, and pharmaceuticals. Nitrobenzene is produced by the nitration of benzene with nitric acid.
