Isobutylene is a branched four carbon chain olefin and one of four isomers of butylene. High purity isobutylene is produced by dehydrogenating isobutane or tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA). Isobutylene is a key raw material in the production of high octane gasoline blendstocks MTBE, ETBE, and isooctane. Butyl bubber (polyisobutylene) is produced by polymerizing isobutylene.
