Butane

Butane

Butane refers to the alkane molecule (no double bonds) with four carbon atoms. Butane is mostly extracted from crude and natural gas streams, but is also a byproduct of many crude oil refinery conversion processing units. Butane is used as a blend component of gasoline, as LPG (liquified petroleum gas) with propane, as an ethylene steam cracker feedstock, and as a feedstock for maleic anhydride production. Isobutane is used as a feedstock for alkylation and for manufacturing isobutylene.
