Propylene is a three carbon alkene that is an important feedstock for making many different chemicals. Propylene is produced as a co-product of ethylene in a steam cracker and as a byproduct in a refinery FCC unit. It is also produced on-purpose via propane dehydrogenation and via metathesis of ethylene and butylenes. Key propylene derivatives are polypropylene, acrylic acid, acrylonitrile, propylene oxide, oxo alcohols, cumene, isopropanol, and oligomers.
