Market Overview

Duration: Long-term outlook to 2050

Polyacetal resins (POM polymers) are used in a variety of applications that once would have used fabricated metal parts. These resins can be injection molded or, in some cases, extruded to make gears, cams, bearings, levers, and a variety of other mechanical parts. POM polymers combine physical characteristics such as flexibility, abrasion resistance, stiffness, self-lubrication, and resistance to long-term exposures to heat, hot water, steam, and motor oil. POM Polymers account for approximately 10% of the total formaldehyde demand and are the third largest derivative of formaldehyde.
