Nitrile rubber (NBR) and nitrile latex (NBL) are copolymers (NB copolymers) of acrylonitrile and butadiene. The applications are primarily industrial, where properties such as resistance to chemicals and oil, as well as good low-temperature performance, are essential. The total end uses are vast, but some examples include automobile parts (hoses and gaskets), oil-well parts, shoe soles, cable insulation, conveyor belts, rubber gloves, gaskets, home-appliance parts, and hoses, among others. Depending on the desired properties, NB copolymers contain different amounts of acrylonitrile and content can range between 0.15 and 0.45 metric tons.
