Carbon Black

Carbon black is a form of paracrystalline carbon produced from the incomplete combustion of heavy oils such as coal tar, fuel oil, FCC slurry oil, and vegetable matter. The largest use is as a pigment and reinforcing additive in automobile tires as well as in belts, hoses, and other non-tire rubber goods. Carbon black is used in lithium ion batteries as well as in inks, coatings, plastics, elastomers, films, adhesives, and paints. For these applications, it can be both a pigment and a filler.
