Session 6: Marine Fuel

The session will cover existing and future demand for methanol as a marine fuel in a changing regulatory environment. Presenters will include shipowners/operators, fuel providers and legislative bodies.

Piet van den Ouden, Global Fuel Excellence Center Senior Manager/BDM, RINA Netherlands b.v.
Rafik Ammar, Manager of Government and Public Affairs in Europe, The Methanol Institute
Malte Zeretzke, Head of R&D, Carnival Maritime GmbH
E-fuels are a key lever for decarbonization of international shipping towards 2050. Mastering the transition requires a clear strategy, including clever engineering of ships, cooperation along the entire fuels value chain and flexibility to meet the demand of very complex ship types with a long-life cycle. E-Methanol is high potential candidate supporting these requirements and allowing for an ambitious and economic transition of the marine Industry.
Gerrit Schmitt, Naval Architect, Mareval
Moderator: Mike Nash, Vice President, Syngas Chemicals, Chemical Market Analytics by OPIS

Session 7: Sustainable Methanol Projects

Jose Luis Moran, Director of Integrated Energy Solutions, Viridi
Carsten Buehrer, Head of Technology, PNE AG
Marc Oliver Gomperts, Director Business Development, FEV Group GmbH
Jonas Heydl, Vice President Procurement, Perstorp Group
Jorge Palomar, Green Hydrogen Development Director, Iberdrola
As a pioneer in green hydrogen with two production plants already operating in Spain (a 20 MW electrolyzer for a fertiliser company and a 2.5 MW electrolyzer for heavy mobility), Iberdrola is now moving into the production of green hydrogen derivatives such as e-methanol, taking advantage of its vast portfolio of renewable energy. The potential of e-methanol for decarbonizing the chemical and shipping industries represents an opportunity for the Company. Iberdrola is currently working on large-scale e-methanol production projects in Galicia (Spain) and in Tasmania (Australia).

Moderator: Tobias Block, Head of Strategy & Content, eFuel Alliance
Make new connections or join familiar faces during this dedicated break. Sessions to resume at 1550.

Session 8: Technology

Benedikt Ackerschott, Regional Sales Manager, MAN Energy Solutions
Maria Del Amo Lopez, Market Manager, Licensed Technology, Johnson Matthey
A highly efficient process results in more natural gas being transformed into methanol and less CO2 being emitted. But can we reach a point where decarbonisation is not necessary? With JM’s SWITCH METHANOL process, we are already there.
Isabella Muscionico, Methanol Technology Leader, Syngas Dept., Casale
Syngas generation through oxygen, successfully implemented by Casale in the large scale plants design, not only has enabled minimum energy consumption and carbon emissions in grass root running plants, but nowadays, it becomes an excellent strategy for revamping existing plants, reducing consumptions and carbon emissions, and for boosting the capacity of bio methanol units.
Moderator: Mike Nash, Vice President, Syngas Chemicals, Chemical Market Analytics by OPIS
