Session 1: Global Market Review

Nick Vafiadis, Vice President, Plastics, Chemical Market Analytics by OPIS
Duncan Clark, Vice President, Global Aromatics, Chemical Market Analytics by OPIS
As the economy and energy landscape changes, hear how this will impact the chemicals and plastic market and understand the role it will play in energy transition.
Matthew Thoelke, Vice President, Olefins, Europe, Middle East & Africa Chemical Market Analytics by OPIS
The Middle East and European olefins industries have responded to the 2015-2019 upturn by pushing forward investment plans. Several projects are now in the implementation and construction phase, however, the collapse in market conditions has undermined the outlook for the returns these investments may achieve. With many players looking to consolidation in this difficult time, does investing in capacity make sense? Should investors respond to the changes in market conditions, should they simply hold their course, or is there a rationale to delay or even cut their losses and cancel investment plans?
Nick Vafiadis, Vice President, Plastics, Chemical Market Analytics by OPIS
Global polyethylene markets are facing a multitude of challenges. Record capacity additions in China and North America have combined with weak demand and pressured prices, margins, and operating rates in markets all around the world. While some producers are considering shutdowns or production cutbacks, others are either already adding capacity or contemplating expansions. Sustainable alternatives to virgin fossil-based polyethylene are garnering a lot of attention but face economic and scale-related obstacles. Market participants throughout the supply chain are adjusting to these challenges and the industry will continue to adapt. The outlook for this evolving industry will be covered in depth during this presentation.
Fabrizio Galie, Associate Director, Europe, Middle East & Africa Polypropylene, Chemical Market Analytics by OPIS
Global PP capacity overbuilding is outpacing the weak demand trends in most regions. Regional PP producers must adapt to a low margin environment, focus on efficiency, and eventually review the assets in their portfolios. We will analyze the expected evolution of the competitive landscape, the demand outlook, and the changing trade routes.
Moderator: Martin Weisweg, Executive Director, Europe & Middle East Plastics, Chemical Market Analytics by OPIS

Session 2: Polyolefins Market Review

Kaushik Mitra, Executive Director, Europe Plastics & Polymers, Chemical Market Analytics by OPIS
European Polyolefin is at an inflexion point. Multiple drivers are reshaping the industry, cost disadvantage is hurting profitability, and higher imports are denting market share. Climate change and energy transition is speeding up the circularity agenda, forcing the industry to change its strategy blueprint. In the Middle East energy transition is driving companies to look beyond energy into chemicals creating a pathway for Investment in Polyolefin capacities. What do these disparate drivers mean for the Polyolefin linear and circular economy? What does the industry need to be aware of to navigate the transformation from strategy to operations to investment?
Dr. Andreas Goeldel, Grupa Azoty Polyolefins S.A.
The European market landscape is evolving due to new applications prompted by the push to net zero. What implications lie ahead for the global market? Will all geographical markets be impacted the same? What business strategies need to be in place to keep pace with the evolution?
Oskar Karlsson, Chief Procurement Officer & Vice President of Sustainability, Trioworld
Trioworld is pushing the envelope in product development and increasing recycling capacity to meet the demand for lowering emissions across the value chain. But closing the material loop without compromising with the high-performing quality needed in plastic film requires collaboration. It requires the rethinking of plastic waste.
Guido Aufdemkamp, Executive Director, Flexible Packaging Europe
The presentation will discuss how the changing regulatory environment is shaping the pace of market development and pushing the industry to adapt.
Moderator: Nick Vafiadis, Vice President Global Plastics, Chemical Market Analytics by OPIS
